Camps

Camp Beaver Creek

Camp Beaver Creek can be described in many ways, but most often we hear it’s an empowering experience for the young people of Hunt with Heart. By the end of the weekend, six young people and their families have started to form an  support system as they join the Hunt with Heart family.

The weekend starts with a safety briefing and target practice at the range. Afterwards, it’s a quick transition to get ready for the evening hunt. As the evening hunt comes to a close, everyone sits down for a family-style dinner before heading out for some hog hunting. Up early the next day, the hunt continues. Throughout the day, our young people are taught fishing and shooting techniques, and learn the basics of archery as well. The evening concludes with some time to reflect on adventures of the weekend, and how it has impacted everyone involved.

Camp La Pesca

Camp La Pesca is an amazing weekend experience for four young people battling severe illness and their families. Like Camp Beaver Creek, Camp La Pesca builds an support system for the four young people as they are welcomed into the Hunt with Heart family.

As families arrive to Camp La Pesca in Port O’Connor, TX they are greeted by their fishing guides and medical staff. After stowing their gear for the weekend, there is a quick orientation, and then it’s off to fishing. The young people spend the weekend fishing the Intracoastal Waterway and bay fishing in the beautiful Matagorda Bay. As the sun sets, the fishing rods don’t get put away. The kids spend their evenings on the back dock fishing the night away. The weekend concludes with a fish fry, a look back on the impact of the weekend, and of course, stories about the ones who got away.

Camp Big Heart

Camp Big Heart marks the first camp of the year for Hunt with Heart and sets the tone for the adventures and connections still to come. Hosted at Bee Branch Ranch and Zylicz Ranch, two beautiful properties of around 800 acres each, the weekend gives young people and their families the chance to step into the outdoors and experience something truly special together.

Throughout the weekend, families enjoy time hunting, sharing meals, and taking in the beauty of the ranches, including a safari tour that adds even more excitement to the experience. More than just a camp, Camp Big Heart is a time of encouragement, connection, and confidence-building for the families we serve. It is a place where young people can try new things, make lasting memories, and feel supported by a community that understands their journey.

By the end of the weekend, families leave with more than just memories. They leave with new friendships, a stronger support system, and the reminder that they are not alone.

"What I like most about Hunt with Heart is seeing my son begin to believe in himself and to begin to see the possibilities for his life. The wonderful people that are associated with the program are truly remarkable."

What We Do

Family Assitance

While Hunt with Heart’s primary mission is to heal and empower youth through incredible outdoor sports & comradery, we have also realized a critical need to provide emotional and occasional financial assistance to our members throughout their medical journey. For example, during extended hospital stays, HWH assists with lodging, parking, and hot meals.
Lodging
Some of the HWH’s young people will encounter extended hospital stays during their medical journey. When waiting for a heart to become available for transplant or immediately following a procedure, our youth may be hospitalized for weeks or even months at a time. A small percentage of Hunt with Heart’s budget is dedicated underwriting hotels when other housing options for families have been exhausted.
Meals
Healthy home-cooked food is often a challenge for families experiencing lengthy hospital stays. Parents receive care packages and gift cards to Medical Center restaurants. Our Hunt with Heart Women’s Group also brings home cooked meals and care packages to families
Parking
A resounding request from families staying in the Texas Medical Center has been for assistance with parking. At up to $14/day, fees add up quickly during extended hospital stays. Some parents shuttle or walk over a mile from remote parking lots to visit their sick child. One of Hunt with Heart’s most valued gifts to parents is parking tokens

What We Do

Monthly Family Events

Once a member in our organization our Hunt with Heart families have the opportunity to attend monthly family events that we host. The objective of these events is to give our families the chance to meet one another and create bonds all while enjoying the great outdoors. These events range from a picnic in the park, to a family clay shoot day, to a Memorial Day picnic at Beaver Creek Ranch. We love being able to meet up with our families every month to check in with them and get to know them better. These events truly make Hunt with Heart so unique and special.
